A note from our founding veterinarian, David Thurmond, DVM

After living and practicing veterinary medicine in the West Houston, Texas area for 17 years, I realized that the West Katy and Fulshear, Texas areas were underserved when it came to top-tier veterinary services. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that the community was ready for a family-owned and operated animal hospital that would provide the gold standard of veterinary care at a reasonable cost.

So I set out with my wife, Kim, and began combing the vast countryside for a location that would serve pet owners from across the region.

It wasn’t easy, but after a few months I found a small space amid a commercial area to open The WellPet Center Veterinary Hospital in 2012. We opened our doors with the hope of providing outstanding veterinary services to as many pet owners in the region as possible, but I knew that the small, quaint space would soon be outgrown.

While the original animal hospital location served a great purpose, I sensed that even greater things were possible. During our first 18 months we experienced an almost unimaginably warm welcome from the community, accompanied by dramatic growth. When Dr. Cynthia Aswad, a Katy, Texas native, joined our pet hospital, we began to consider a larger, more accommodating state-of-the-art veterinary facility to better serve the ongoing needs of Katy and the surrounding community.

In March of 2014 we welcomed Dr. Bryan Ping, a long-standing and well-respected veterinarian in the Houston, Texas area, as a proud partner of our animal clinic. The three of us were stepping all over each other trying to serve the needs of our clients and patients in the small space we originally called The WellPet Center!

We set out to design and build our latest and greatest veterinary hospital, now located at 5910 FM 1463 Rd, Katy, Texas. After a tremendous amount of work (a true labor of love), our new pet hospital opened in January 2016. We have two surgical suites, eight exam rooms, and a private comfort room for end of life appointments.

Our veterinary hospital was originally opened with Dr. Thurmond and Kandis (now hospital manager) and is stronger than ever before. While our initial vision was to serve the pet health care needs of the Katy and Fulshear, Texas areas, we didn’t expect the level of welcome and support we’ve received from the larger community, including Cross Creek Ranch, Houston, Sugar Land, Richmond, and Cinco Ranch. We cherish our community support, and routinely work to support our local schools, and proudly provide Military and First Responder discounts with the goal of giving back to our local community.

Our veterinarians and veterinary staff couldn’t be more thankful for our community, our clients, our patients, and the support we’ve received along the way. The WellPet Center Veterinary Hospital is thrilled to deliver a wide range of veterinary services and continues to grow!

Working closely with this community and providing veterinary services to the Katy and Fulshear, Texas areas is what we love to do, and we’re honored to be the first destination for local pet owners when they require exceptional veterinary expertise and personalized pet health care.
